Aspelta was a king of the kingdom of Kush. He ruled a long time ago. He was the son of Senkamanisken and Queen Nasalsa. His brother, Anlamani, was the king before him. A group of twenty-four leaders chose Aspelta to rule. He then went to the city of Napata. There, he was crowned king by the gods.

In 592 BCE, an army from Egypt came to Kush. This was led by Pharaoh Psamtik II. The invaders attacked the city of Napata. Because of this attack, Aspelta moved his capital. He moved it to a city called Meroe. This new city was more secure for his people.

Aspelta had a very large tomb at Nuri. It is the second largest tomb there. A man named George Reisner found it in 1916. Inside, he found many treasures. There were gold and silver vases. He also found jars made of alabaster, which is a white stone. Many of these items are in the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston now.
