Alara of Kush

history Maturity 11-13 Next article →

Alara was a great king of Kush. Kush was an old land in Nubia. Alara was the first prince we know about from Kush. He was a very strong leader. He brought many lands together. He ruled from Meroë to the Third Cataract.

Alara made Napata a holy place. It was the religious capital of Kush. He had a wife named Queen Kasaqa. They had a daughter named Tabiry. Tabiry was a queen, too.

Future kings looked up to Alara. They wanted to rule as long as he did. He was a very important part of their stories. After Alara, a king named Kashta took power. Kashta grew the kingdom even more.

Alara was buried in a place called El-Kurru. His tomb was near the tomb of his wife.

His tomb had many parts. It had a small room at the bottom of a deep hole. The top of the tomb had Egyptian styles. It even had a bronze statue on top. This shows how his rule changed the way people lived.
