Kashta was a king of the Kushite family. He ruled the land of Kush long ago. His name might mean "The Kushite."

Kashta had a wife named Pebatjma. They had several children. One son was King Piye. Piye later ruled Egypt. Another son may have been King Shabaka. Kashta also had daughters named Amenirdis I and Khensa.

Kashta was a strong leader. He ruled from a place called Napata. He wanted to grow his power. He sent his daughter to the city of Thebes. She became a leader in a local temple. This helped his family rule more land.

During his rule, his people changed. They began to use Egyptian ways. They followed Egyptian religion and art. This made the two lands more alike.

When Kashta died, he was buried in a special place. His tomb is at the pyramids of el-Kurru.

He was buried near his wife. Other kings and queens were buried in pyramids nearby.
