Agricultural cycle

language culture Maturity 9-11 Next article →

The agricultural cycle is a yearly pattern of work. It helps people grow and harvest crops. Farmers must follow many steps to make this happen. They loosen the soil and plant seeds. They also add water and nutrients to the ground. Without these tasks, crops cannot grow. This cycle is vital for providing food to the world.

There are different ways to start a new plant. One way is called the sexual technique. This involves growing a plant from a seed. Another way is the asexual technique. This uses parts of a parent plant instead. One method is grafting. In grafting, two plant parts are joined together. They bind and grow as one single plant.

Growing plants requires very specific conditions to work. For example, a seed must go through germination. This is when a seed sprouts into a seedling. A seed needs water, air, and the right temperature. It also needs energy and enzymes to grow. If any of these are missing, it fails. Pollination is another very important step for plants.

Pollination moves pollen to the female parts of a plant. The air and heat must be just right. Ideally, the temperature should be 24.4 °C. The humidity should stay between 50% and 70%. If humidity goes above 90%, pollen might not shed. Farmers can increase air circulation to help control this. This helps the plants stay healthy and strong.

Plants also need irrigation to grow in dry places. Irrigation is the way humans add water to soil. This helps plants grow faster and produce more food. In dry areas, people use groundwater from aquifers. These are rocks that hold water underground. In America, wells are used for this task. Arizona is a place that uses underground wells.

There are two main ways to move irrigation water. One way is called spray irrigation. The other way is called drip irrigation. Drip irrigation is often seen as more efficient. This is because less water evaporates into the air. This method helps save precious water for the plants. It is a smart way to manage a farm.
