Agricultural cycle

language culture Maturity 9-11 Next article →

Farmers follow a cycle to grow crops. This cycle has many steps. First, they must prepare the soil. Then, they plant the seeds. Some plants grow from seeds. This is called sexual technique. Other plants grow from parts of a parent plant. This is called asexual technique. One way is grafting. This is when two plant parts join together. They grow as one plant. Another way is budding. This is when a bud joins a stem. It makes a new plant like the parent.

Seeds must sprout to grow. This is called germination. Seeds need water, air, and the right heat. They also need energy to start.

Plants also need pollination. This is when pollen moves to female parts. Plants like certain heat and air to help.

Finally, plants need water to grow big. This is called irrigation. Farmers use water from rain or snow. In dry places, they use groundwater. They may use dams or wells. Some use spray irrigation. Others use drip irrigation. Drip irrigation is very efficient. It lets less water turn into vapor. This helps plants grow more food.
