Baeyer did great work with dyes. He found ways to make new colors in a lab. He also made phenolphthalein. This is a substance used to show changes in liquids. He studied many different parts of chemistry. He even found barbituric acid. This is a chemical that helped make certain medicines.

He also helped scientists name things. He made a system for naming cyclic compounds. These are shapes made of atoms in a ring. His ideas helped others name new things correctly. Because of his hard work, he won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1905. This is a very big honor for scientists. He was also a great teacher. He taught students about organic chemistry for many years.
