Eichmann worked by managing the logistics of moving large groups of people. Logistics means the planning and organizing of complex tasks. He helped manage the trains used for mass deportations. These trains moved Jewish people to ghettos and extermination camps. In 1942, he attended the Wannsee Conference to help plan these actions.

He also prepared the minutes for that important meeting. He worked under the direction of Reinhard Heydrich to make these plans work.

Eichmann's life began in Solingen, Germany, in 1906.

His family moved to Linz, Austria, in 1914. He attended a school in Linz that Adolf Hitler had also attended. After he struggled in school, he worked for his father's mining company. He later worked as an oil salesman starting in 1927. He joined the Nazi Party and the SS in 1932. By 1934, he joined the SD, which was the security service of the SS.

During the war, Eichmann's work became much more serious. In 1944, he oversaw the deportation of many people from Hungary. Out of 725,000 Jews in Hungary, 437,000 were deported by July 1944. Many of these people were sent to the Auschwitz concentration camp.

At Auschwitz, about 75 percent of people were murdered when they arrived. Eichmann's job was to make sure these movements happened as the Nazis planned.

After Germany was defeated in 1945, Eichmann escaped from a detention camp. He eventually moved to Argentina using false papers. In 1960, the Mossad, which is Israel's intelligence agency, found him.
