Zoysia is a group of creeping grasses. These grasses grow in Asia and Australia. They also live on islands in the Pacific.

This grass is a popular choice for lawns. People use it on golf courses too. It is used for fairways and teeing areas. Many people like it because it feels soft. It also has a fine texture.

Zoysia is very tough. It can live with many types of sun and water. It can even handle different temperatures. The grass grows in thick mats. These mats help stop erosion on slopes. Erosion is when dirt slides away.

This grass stays healthy well. It resists disease and bugs. It also stops weeds from growing. Some types grow in the wet summer. Then they go dormant in the cool winter. Dormant means the grass stays still and rests. One popular type is called Emerald Zoysia. It is a hybrid. A hybrid is a plant made from two different kinds. It comes from Z. japonica and Z. tenuifolia.
