Zhang Zhongjing was a very famous doctor from China. He lived a long time ago during the Han dynasty. People often call him the sage of Chinese medicine. This title shows how much people respect his work. He was a doctor, a writer, and an inventor. He helped create the rules for how to use medicine. His ideas changed how people treated sickness for a very long time.

Zhang learned medicine by studying very hard. He had a teacher named Zhang Bozu. He also read many old medical books. One famous book was called the Yellow Emperor's Inner Classic. Zhang collected many different ways to make medicine. He put all this knowledge into one great book. This book was called the Shanghan Zabing Lun. It was a masterpiece of medical writing.

During his life, things were often very difficult in China. Warlords were fighting for control of different lands. These wars caused many people to get sick with diseases. Zhang's own family also faced these sicknesses. Some stories say he even invented dumplings called jiaozi. He may have made them to help people with ears hurt by the cold.

His great book was lost for a while during the wars. Later, doctors worked hard to find and organize his ideas. They split his work into two separate books. The first was called the Shang Han Lun. It focused on how to treat fevers and infectious diseases. The second was the Jingui Yaolüe. This book helped doctors treat sicknesses inside the body.

Zhang's work started a special school of medicine. It is known as the Cold Damage school. His methods were very precise and direct. He focused on the exact condition of the patient. Today, many doctors still study his important lessons. There is even a special temple for him in Nanyang. This place honors him as a great teacher.
