Yemen is a country facing a very difficult crisis. This crisis involves many different problems happening at once. There are fights over who should lead the nation. There are also struggles over how to find enough water. These issues make life very hard for many people living there. It is a complex story with many moving parts.

The political trouble began with a big movement in 2011. This was part of a larger wave called the Arab Spring. Many people protested against the leader, Abdullah Saleh. He had been the president for 33 years. After many protests and some violence, a deal was made. Saleh left his job in early 2012. A man named Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi became the new president.

However, the peace did not last very long. A group called the Houthis had been fighting in the north for years. In September 2014, the Houthis entered the capital city of Sanaa. This caused the country to fall into a civil war. The Houthis took control of much of the government. President Hadi had to leave the capital. He moved to the city of Aden and then to Saudi Arabia.

Water is another huge problem for the people in Yemen. The land is very dry and needs much water. Most water comes from deep underground in places called aquifers. In the city of Sanaa, the water level dropped very deep. It was 30 meters down in the 1970s. By 2012, it was 1,200 meters below the surface. This makes it very hard to grow food for everyone.

Many things make this situation even more difficult. In 2015, two big storms called cyclones hit the country. These storms caused flooding and helped pests called locusts grow. These bugs can fly 100 miles in just one day. They can also destroy many crops very quickly. Fighting over water and land also causes many deaths. This is a very hard time for the people of Yemen.
