This location makes the province a very interesting part of the land.

The landscape of Yazd is full of different shapes and heights. There are many mountains to see in the province. One group of mountains sits in the south and southwest. This group is wider than the other mountain ridges. It includes the Shir Kuh mountain. Shir Kuh is the tallest mountain in the whole region.

There are also mountains in the east side of the province. The highest peak in those eastern mountains is called Bon Lokht.

The capital city is also named Yazd. It sits in a valley between two mountains. These mountains are Shir Kuh and Kharaneq. Because of where it sits, people sometimes call the city "the bride of the Kavir."
