geography Maturity 11-13 Next article →

The Yangtze Plain is in China. It sits along the Yangtze River. It also sits by the river's main branches. The plain starts east of Yichang. This area is in Hubei province.

The Middle Yangtze Plain covers parts of many provinces. These are Hunan, Hubei, and Jiangxi. This part has three big lakes. They are Dongting, Poyang, and Hong lakes.

The Middle-Lower Yangtze Plain goes east from Mount Wu. It reaches all the way to the coast. This land is made of silt. Silt is soil left by rivers.

The land is often wet and swampy. Many lakes and rivers flow through it. People call it the "land of fish and rice." This is because rice and fish grow well there.

Farmers grow many things on this plain. They grow tea and silk. They also grow rapeseed and broad beans. You can find tangerines here too. The Lower Yangtze Plain includes the Yangtze River Delta. This area is a very important part of the land.
