The wobbegong is a type of shark. It belongs to a group called carpet sharks. This name comes from their bold skin patterns. The patterns look just like a rug or a carpet.

These sharks live on the sea floor. They stay in warm waters. You can find them near Australia and Indonesia. Some live as far north as Japan. Wobbegongs use camouflage to hide. This means they blend into their surroundings. They have small, weed-like growths around their mouths. These help them hide among rocks. They are ambush predators. This means they wait for prey to swim by. Then they use powerful jaws to catch fish. Their teeth are thin and sharp like needles.

Wobbegongs are mostly active at night. They have a slow metabolism. This means their bodies use power slowly. Because of this, they do not need to eat often. Most only need two meals each week. Some small types live in home tanks. But they might eat their tankmates! Even though they are not usually dangerous, they can bite. They have many small, sharp teeth.
