The whale shark is the largest fish in the sea. It can grow over 12 meters long. It is not dangerous to people. It is a filter feeder. This means it eats tiny plankton from the water. The smallest is the barbelthroat carpet shark. It is only about 14 centimeters long. Most carpet sharks live in warm waters. They like to stay near the bottom. Some sharks lay eggs in the water. Other sharks keep eggs inside their bodies. The babies hatch and are ready to live alone.
