The sand tiger shark is a unique animal found in many oceans.

They live in warm and cool waters near coasts and reefs. These sharks have a pointy head and a bulky body. Their skin is grey with reddish-brown spots on their backs.

This shark has a very neat trick. It can gulp air from the surface. It keeps this air in its stomach. This helps the shark stay floating in the water with very little effort. This makes it easier to hunt quietly.

Sand tigers are mostly nocturnal, which means they are active at night. During the day, they hide in caves or near rocks. At night, they hunt for food like fish, squid, and crabs.

They often hunt in groups to catch large schools of fish.

In some places, these sharks move long distances every year. This is called a migration. They swim to different waters to mate or to have their babies. Some sharks in South Africa and Australia swim over 1,000 kilometers on these trips. Sadly, these sharks are now critically endangered. This means there are not many of them left in the wild.
