Mantas have wing-like fins. They use these fins to swim through the ocean. They are filter feeders. This means they eat tiny bits of food called zooplankton. To eat, they swim with their mouths open. They use special parts called gill rakers to catch food.

Some mantas swim in big circles to eat together. They can form a group called a cyclone. This group can have 150 mantas in it.

Mantas are very smart. They have large brains for their size. Some can even pass a mirror test. This shows they may know themselves.

These animals face many dangers. They can get stuck in fishing nets. Pollution also hurts them. Some people hunt them for their gill plates. Because they grow slowly, these threats are serious.
