Werner von Siemens was a famous German inventor.

He was born in 1816. He grew up in a large family with many brothers. Werner wanted to study at a special school. However, his family did not have enough money for school fees. Instead, he joined a military school to learn engineering.

Werner made many big changes to how we use power. He invented a new telegraph. This tool used a needle to point at letters. He also built a dynamo. A dynamo is a machine that helps make electricity.

This machine helped start the modern age of power.

He used his ideas to build new ways to travel. He made the first electric train for people in 1879. In 1880, he made the first electric elevator. He also helped make the first electric tram service.

Werner started a large company. It is now called Siemens. His family still owns some of the company today. His name is even used as a unit to measure electricity.
