Long ago, they moved west toward the Danube Valley. At first, they worked with the Roman Empire. A leader named King Wallia helped the Romans. In return, the Romans gave the Visigoths land in France.

Later, the Visigoths became more powerful. A king named Euric led them to take much more land. He helped the kingdom grow across parts of France and Spain. The kingdom had a capital city called Toulouse. Later, they moved the capital to Toledo in Spain.

As time passed, the Visigoths and local people lived together. They began to share the same ways of life. They even made one set of laws. This was called the Visigothic Code. These laws helped rule the land for a long time.

The kingdom faced many wars. They fought against the Franks and the Byzantine Empire. In the year 711, new troops from North Africa arrived. They took over most of the Visigothic lands. This changed the history of the region forever.
