The Visigothic Kingdom was a strong land in the past.

It covered parts of what we call France and Spain. This kingdom began after the Western Roman Empire fell. The Visigoths were people from Central Europe. They had moved west from the Danube Valley. At first, they were allies of the Romans. They worked to keep order against other groups.

This helped them gain a place to live.

Growth happened through both deals and battles. King Wallia led the people to settle in Gaul. The Romans gave them land in the Garonne valley. This was part of a system called foederati. This meant they were allies who received land. Later, King Euric changed how things worked. He stopped being a simple ally. He led a great advance to take more territory.

He captured many important cities.

History shows the kingdom changed its home over time. At first, the capital was in Toulouse. This was sometimes called the Kingdom of Toulouse. Later, the center moved to Toledo in Spain. This new era was called the Kingdom of Toledo. The people faced many hard jobs and wars. They fought the Franks in the early 6th century. They also fought the Byzantine Empire for control.

These battles changed their borders often.

Many facts define this time in history. King Euric ruled from 466 to 484. In 589, the Visigoths changed their religion. They moved from Arianism to Nicene Christianity. This helped the Gothic and Roman people join together. By 654, they finished the Visigothic Code. This was a special set of laws.

These laws applied to everyone in the land.

This kingdom left a lasting mark on the world. Their legal code helped shape Spanish law later. Even after the kingdom fell, their ideas stayed. In 711, troops from North Africa arrived. They conquered most of the Visigothic lands. However, some people fled to the mountains. A nobleman named Pelagius became a leader there.
