Long ago, a group called the Huns moved into their lands. This forced many Goths to move to new places.

A strong leader named Theodoric the Great led the Ostrogoths. In 493, he started a kingdom in Italy. He ruled from a place called Ravenna. Theodoric was part of a ruling family called the Amals. He helped keep Roman laws and culture alive. This made the kingdom stable for a time.

After Theodoric died, the kingdom grew weak. A big war began in 535. An emperor named Justinian I wanted to rule the West again. A leader named Totila fought to win back land. But the war was very hard on the land. By 554, the Ostrogothic kingdom ended. The people joined a new group called the Lombards.
