Theodoric I was a king of the Visigoths. He ruled from 418 to 451. He led his people to lands in Gaul. He wanted to find new areas for them. He even tried to reach the sea.

Theodoric fought many battles. He won a big fight at Tolosa. He also made peace with the Romans. One of his daughters was married to a Vandal leader. This caused a lot of trouble for the Visigoths.

Later, a group called the Huns invaded. Their leader was named Attila. Attila was a danger to many lands. Theodoric joined a group to stop him. He fought alongside a Roman leader named Aëtius.

They fought at the Battle of the Catalaunian Plains. This battle happened in June 451. The Visigoths helped win the fight. But Theodoric died during the battle. Some say he fell from his horse. Others say he was killed by a spear.
