Vipers are a family of venomous snakes.

You can find them in many places. They live in the Americas, Africa, and Asia. They are not found in Australia or Antarctica.

Vipers have special teeth called fangs. These fangs are long and hollow. They work like tiny needles. When the snake is not hunting, the fangs fold back.

When a viper strikes, the fangs rotate forward. This lets the snake inject venom deep into its prey. The venom helps break down the food. This is called pre-digestion. It helps the snake digest its meal.

Some vipers are pit vipers. These snakes have heat-sensing pits near their noses.

These pits help them find warm animals. They can even see heat in the dark. Many vipers hunt at night.

Most vipers give birth to live young. They do not lay eggs in nests. The mother keeps the eggs inside her body. This helps the babies stay safe until they are born. Vipers are very clever hunters.
