A vibraphone is a musical instrument made of metal bars.

Players hit these bars with mallets. Mallets are soft sticks made of wood or plastic. They often have a rubber head wrapped in yarn. These sticks can make a bright sound or a soft ring.

The bars are made of aluminum. This metal gives the instrument a mellow sound. Each bar hangs over a tube called a resonator. These tubes make the sound much louder.

Inside the tubes, small metal discs spin using a motor. This spinning creates a shaking sound called a tremolo.

Players also use a pedal. This works just like a piano pedal. It helps them stop the sound or let it ring.
