It is also known as Tshivenḓa. This language is very important to the Venda people. They are also called the Vhavenḓa. Many people speak it in South Africa and Zimbabwe. It is an official language in both of these countries. Speaking Venda helps people share their culture and history. It connects people to their homes and their families.

Writing Venda uses the Latin alphabet. This is the same set of letters used in English. However, Venda adds five special accented letters.

Four letters have a small mark called a circumflex below them. These are ḓ, ḽ, ṋ, and ṱ. Another letter, ṅ, has a small dot on top. There are five vowel letters used to make seven different vowel sounds. The letters C, J, and Q are only used for foreign names.

The history of the language is tied to the land. During the apartheid era in South Africa, a place called the Venda Bantustan was set up. This area was meant to cover the people who spoke Venda. Today, many speakers live in the Limpopo province. In the Vhembe district, there are 844,000 speakers. Many people also live in the Gauteng province. In Zimbabwe, there may be one million people who speak it.

There are many interesting facts about how many people speak Venda. In South Africa, there are about 1.2 million speakers. This is 2.2% of the total population in South Africa. This makes Venda the second smallest minority language in the country. The Ndebele language is the only one smaller, with 1.1 million speakers. In South Africa, many speakers live in the Makhado Local Municipality. There are 350,000 people there, and 370,000 in Thulamela.

Learning Venda involves understanding special sounds and tones. A tone is the pitch of your voice when you speak. In Venda, the pitch can change how a word is understood. Some words have a low tone, while others have a high tone. There is also a system for writing called Luṱhofunḓeraru lwa Mibvumo. This writing system is used to represent the language correctly. Venda is related to the Shona language spoken in Southern Africa. It is a rich part of the world's many languages.
