He lived during the Copper Age, which is a time when people began using metal. This discovery is important because it shows us how people lived thousands of years ago. He is the oldest known natural human mummy found in Europe. Scientists can study his body to learn about ancient health and food. His body tells a true story about a life lived in the mountains.

Finding Ötzi was a surprising event that happened in the mountains. Two German tourists named Helmut and Erika Simon found him in 1991. They were hiking in the Ötztal Alps near the border of Austria and Italy. At first, they thought he was a hiker who had died recently.

The body was frozen in the ice on the Fineilspitze ridge. It took several days and many people to move him safely. Experts eventually moved him to a lab in Innsbruck to study him.

Scientists used many tools to find out when Ötzi lived. They looked at his tools and his body tissues. They found he lived between 3350 and 3105 BC. This was about 5,000 years ago.

He was also lactose intolerant, which means he could not eat dairy easily. Scientists believe another person killed him. They found an arrowhead stuck in his left shoulder. This shows that life in the Copper Age could be dangerous. Today, you can visit him at the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology in Italy.
