It is a very special place because it is split into two separate parts. One part is called North Tyrol, and the other is East Tyrol. A strip of land belonging to the state of Salzburg sits between them. This makes the state look like two pieces of a puzzle. Today, Tyrol is known as a top place for tourism and mountain life. It is the third-largest state in all of Austria.

The land is shaped by the huge mountains of the Eastern Alps. You will find many high ranges like the Ötztal, Zillertal, and Kitzbühel Alps. The highest peak is the Großglockner, which stands 3,797 meters tall. This mountain is actually the highest point in the entire country of Austria.

Rivers such as the Inn and the Isel flow through the deep valleys. These rivers and high alpine passes help people move through the rugged terrain. The weather can change quickly because of the tall mountain walls.

History has shaped Tyrol in many different ways over the years. Long ago, the area was part of the Holy Roman Empire. In the 14th century, the famous Habsburg family took control of the land.

After World War I ended in 1919, the region was divided by a treaty. South Tyrol and Trentino were given to Italy at that time. This left only North and East Tyrol inside the new Republic of Austria. This division is still a big part of how people see the region today.

Innsbruck is the capital city and a very important center for the state.

It is home to a famous university and many large industries. The city is also a gateway for people traveling through the mountains. One very old and famous path is the Brenner Pass. It has been used to travel between northern and southern Europe since Roman times. Many people visit the city to see its historic buildings and bright streets.

Life in Tyrol is a mix of modern ways and old traditions. Many people work in tourism, skiing, or mountain farming.
