He lived in the Soviet Union. He wanted to find ways to grow more food. Lysenko had a special idea called vernalization. This is a way to use cold and water to change seeds. He thought this would make winter seeds act like spring seeds. He also believed these changes would pass to the next plants.

But his ideas were not correct science. He rejected genetics. Genetics is the study of how traits pass from parents to children. Lysenko used his power to stop other scientists. He did not like people who disagreed with him. He used his influence with leaders like Joseph Stalin. This helped him make his ideas the law. Many scientists lost their jobs. Some were even sent to prison. One famous scientist was Nikolai Vavilov.

Because Lysenko's ideas were wrong, many farms grew less food. His work caused problems for farming for many years.
