He was born in 1910. As a boy, he loved nature. He went on trips with his father. These trips helped him learn about plants. Later, a teacher took him on plant walks. This teacher taught him how to name plants.

Armen became an expert in many areas. He studied how plants change over time. This is called evolution. He also studied fossils. Fossils are the remains of old living things. He spent much of his life in Armenia and Russia. He even worked at a garden in New York.

Armen made a special way to group plants. This is called the Takhtajan system. He used it to group flowering plants. He put them into two main groups. One group is called dicots. The other group is called monocots. His system shows how plants are related to each other. Many people still use his ideas today. Some plants were even named to honor him. These plants have names like Takhtajaniella. He was a very important leader in science.
