Some animals use teeth to catch prey or to defend themselves. Teeth are not made of bone. Instead, they are made of different tissues.

Animals grow teeth in different ways. Most mammals are diphyodonts. This means they grow two sets of teeth. Humans are diphyodonts. We have baby teeth and then adult teeth. Some animals are polyphyodonts. This means they grow many sets of teeth. Sharks are polyphyodonts. They grow a new set every two weeks.
