Most people grow two sets of teeth. The first set is called deciduous teeth. Many people call these baby teeth or milk teeth. They usually include 20 teeth. Later, these are replaced by 32 permanent teeth. Some adult teeth are called wisdom teeth. These often appear between ages 17 and 25.

A tooth has many different parts. The top part is the crown. It is covered in enamel. Enamel is the hardest part of your body. Below the enamel is dentin. Dentin is a softer layer that supports the enamel.

The very center of the tooth is the pulp. The pulp is soft tissue. It contains nerves and blood vessels. The bottom part of the tooth is the root. Roots stay in your jaw bone. They are covered by gums and a layer called cementum. This layer helps the tooth stay steady.
