Time travel is the idea of moving through time.

You could visit the past or the future. Many old stories use this idea.

Some characters sleep for a very long time. They wake up in a world that has changed. In some tales, people visit gods or magical places. When they return, many years have passed on Earth.

In books, people often use a time machine.

H. G. Wells made this idea famous in 1895. Scientists also study time. They use a set of rules called general relativity. This theory helps them understand how space and time work together.

Some scientists think traveling to the future is possible. This can happen through time dilation. This is a way that time moves at different speeds. For example, a clock might move slower if it travels very fast. Moving to the past is much harder to prove. Some ideas suggest using wormholes. A wormhole is a bridge through space and time. We do not know if these can really exist.
