A wormhole is a possible tunnel in space.

It could link two far places. It might even link two different times. This would make travel very fast. Scientists call this a bridge between points in spacetime. Spacetime is the way we measure space and time together.

One kind is the Einstein–Rosen bridge. It is named after Albert Einstein and Nathan Rosen. This type connects two areas of space. It might even connect two different universes. But these bridges are not easy to use. They might close too fast for anything to pass through.

To keep a tunnel open, we might need exotic matter. This is a special kind of matter with negative energy. This matter could help hold the tunnel open. Some scientists think tiny wormholes might pop in and out of existence. These might be part of a tiny foam in space. We do not know if they are real yet.

Scientists still study how these might work.
