Micro black hole

space Maturity 7-9 Next article →

Scientists think tiny black holes might exist. These are called micro black holes. They are much smaller than the big black holes in space. Stephen Hawking first suggested they could exist in 1971.

Some think they formed a long time ago. They may have come from the Big Bang. These are called primordial black holes. They might have formed when the universe was very crowded.

Micro black holes might not last long. They lose mass by letting out tiny bits. This is called Hawking radiation. This happens because of quantum effects. As the black hole loses mass, it gets hotter. This makes it lose mass even faster. It might end with a sudden burst of particles.

Some people wonder if we can make them. They look at the Large Hadron Collider. This is a big machine that hits particles together. Some theories say extra dimensions could help make them. If they were made, they would vanish almost instantly. This would keep us safe. Cosmic rays hit Earth all the time. They do not cause any damage.
