Teleportation is the idea of moving things from one place to another. You do not travel through the space in between. This idea is common in movies and books.

In Star Trek, characters use a transporter room to move.

The word "teleportation" was used by Charles Fort in 1931. He joined the Greek word "tele," meaning remote, with a Latin word for "to carry."

Real science uses a different way called quantum teleportation. This does not move matter like people or objects. Instead, it moves quantum information. This is the data needed to make a tiny system look like another one. In 2014, researchers moved information between two bits. These bits were three metres apart. In 2023, Kazuki Ikeda saw energy teleportation for the first time. He used special computers to do this across tiny distances. Scientists think we might even teleport particles one day. This could work for an electron. However, it might not work for a proton. This is because of how mass and time work together.
