Teleportation is a big idea about moving things. It is the idea of moving matter or energy from one spot to another. This happens without traveling through the physical space in between.

You might see this in many science fiction stories. Sometimes it is paired with time travel. The travel might happen all at once or take an unknown amount of time.

It is a way to imagine moving across the world instantly.

Real science uses a special way called quantum teleportation. This is not the same as moving a whole person. Instead, it moves quantum information. This information helps prepare a tiny target to look like the original source.

In 1993, scientists named Bennett and his team proposed this idea. They said a particle's state could move to a distant particle. This happens without the particles themselves moving at all. It is a way to copy information rather than moving physical objects.

People have used the word teleport for a long time. The term for moving objects without traveling was used as early as 1878. An American writer named Charles Fort coined the word "teleportation" in 1931. He used it in his book called Lo!

He combined the Greek word "tele," which means remote, with a Latin word. That Latin word, "portare," means to carry. He used the word to describe strange things that appear or disappear.

Scientists have done many important tests with these ideas. In 2014, Ronald Hanson and his team worked in the Netherlands. They moved information between two quantum bits three metres apart. Later, in 2008, M. Hotta suggested we might teleport energy too. In 2023, Kazuki Ikeda observed quantum energy teleportation for the first time.

He used IBM superconducting computers to do this across tiny distances. These experiments show how we study these tiny, invisible rules.

Teleportation is also a fun part of magic and stories. Magicians have used tricks like this for a very long time. The "cups and balls" trick has been around since 3 BC. It can make objects seem to vanish or move places.

In books, Fred T. Jane wrote about scientific teleportation in 1897. His story was called To Venus in Five Seconds. These stories and tricks help us imagine what might be possible.
