Performing resistance exercises on these muscles stimulates blood flow more than other localized activities. 
Blood travels through the thigh via a complex system of vessels. The arterial supply is provided by the femoral artery and the obturator artery. The deep venous system includes the femoral vein, the common femoral vein, and the deep femoral vein. It also includes the proximal part of the popliteal vein. There are also perforating veins that connect the deep and superficial systems. The superficial system includes the small and great saphenous veins. Lymphatic drainage follows the path of the arteries. It drains toward the lumbar lymphatic trunks and then to the cisterna chyli. 
Injuries to the thigh can be quite significant. Soft tissue injuries can include strains, sprains, bruising, or tendinitis. Athletes may suffer from acute injuries or issues caused by overuse. One specific condition is runner's knee, also known as patellofemoral pain. This occurs when the patella rubs against the end of the femur. Tight hamstrings or weak thigh muscles can increase this risk. Weakness in the thigh can also result in a positive Gowers' sign during a physical exam. 
Culture and fashion also play a role in how the thigh is viewed. In many Western societies, clothing like miniskirts or short shorts is common. Many styles of athleisure and beachwear also display the thighs. However, professional dress codes may require people to cover them. In many Islamic countries, displaying the thighs is often prohibited or disapproved of. People use different fashion choices to show or cover the area. Examples include thigh-high boots or the style known as zettai ryoiki.
