Theta role

language culture Maturity 11-13 Next article →

Words help us tell stories. They show who does things. A person can be the doer. This is called an agent.

A thing can move too. We call this a theme. Words tell us how things go. For example, one person gives a gift. The person is the giver. The gift is the thing given. The person who gets it is the receiver.

These roles help our sentences make sense. They help us know the story.
