They helped lead a new wave of rock music in the early 2000s. The group has five members who play different instruments. Julian Casablancas is the lead singer and writes most of the songs. Nick Valensi and Albert Hammond Jr. play the guitars. Nikolai Fraiture plays the bass, and Fabrizio Moretti plays the drums. People love their music because of their skill and unique sound.

Making their music started with a lot of hard work. Many members were teenagers when they first began playing together. They practiced almost every night in a building in Midtown Manhattan. They played shows at famous rock clubs like the Luna Lounge. They even worked with a producer named Gordon Raphael to make their early recordings. This dedication helped them move from small clubs to huge festival stages.

The band's history began in the late 1990s. Julian, Nick, and Fabrizio started playing together while attending school in Manhattan. They later added Nikolai, who was a childhood friend of Julian. In 1998, Albert Hammond Jr. joined the group after reconnecting with Julian. The band spent two years practicing and performing in New York City. Their first official show as The Strokes was on September 14, 1999. This early time helped them build their famous musical style.

In 2001, they released their first major album called Is This It.

This album was a huge success and received many great reviews. They released other albums like Room on Fire in 2003 and First Impressions of Earth in 2006. After a long break, they released the album The New Abnormal in 2020. This album was produced by Rick Rubin and was a big hit. It even won a Grammy Award for Best Rock Album at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards.

If you listen to modern rock, you might hear the influence of The Strokes. Their music connects to older bands like The Velvet Underground and The Doors. They helped bring a specific kind of energy back to rock music. Even when they take breaks, fans still look forward to their new songs. They show how much effort it takes to become a great band. Their journey from school friends to award winners is a great story of music history.
