The Maritimes is a region in eastern Canada.

It is made of three provinces. These are New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island. The region sits along the Atlantic coast. It is near the Gulf of Maine and the Gulf of St. Lawrence. The name maritime means "of the sea." This is a good name because the land is near the ocean.

Indigenous people lived here long ago. The Mi'kmaq, Wolastoqiyik, and Passamaquoddy people are from this land. Later, French settlers arrived. They built a place called Acadia. Many Acadians lived in small towns. They grew food and fished.

History in the Maritimes was often hard. There were many wars between France and Britain. In 1755, the British began the Expulsion of the Acadians. They forced many Acadians to leave their homes. These people were scattered to many different places.
