The land here looks very different depending on where you go. British Columbia sits by the Pacific Ocean. It has many mountains, like the Canadian Rockies. These mountains form a big divide in the land. To the east, the land becomes much flatter. We call these flat areas the Prairies. Much of this land is used for grain farming. Some parts, like the Alberta Badlands, are hilly.

The weather can change a lot. The coast of British Columbia has mild winters. It is rarely very cold there. However, the Prairies have harsh winters. They can get very cold with strong winds. Summers in the west can be very hot. In fact, a town in British Columbia holds the record for the hottest temperature in Canada.
