Thai is a tonal language. This means the pitch of your voice changes a word's meaning. It is also an analytic language. This means it uses small words to show how parts of a sentence fit together.

The Thai language has a long history. Many words come from older languages like Pali and Sanskrit. It also has many words from Khmer.

In the past, the Ayutthaya Kingdom was a place where people spoke both Thai and Khmer. Over time, more people began to use only Thai. This changed how the language sounds and looks. The writing system is also very old. It has been around for eight centuries. The way people write Thai is complex. It uses a special script to show sounds and tones. Today, many people in Thailand speak both Thai and a local dialect. This helps them connect with their home and the whole country.
