The mountains rise very fast from the valley floor. This happens because of the Teton Fault. A fault is a crack in the Earth. One side of the crack rose up. This made the mountains. The other side fell down. This made a valley called Jackson Hole. One group of peaks is the Cathedral Group. It has five main summits. These are Grand Teton, Mount Owen, Teewinot, Middle Teton, and South Teton.

Many people know these mountains. They have been in many films. The Snake River flows through the valley near the mountains. Some people think the name comes from the Teton Sioux. Others think it comes from the French. They thought the peaks looked like breasts.
