Tenrikyo is a Japanese religion with a unique way of looking at the world.

It grew from the teachings of a woman named Miki Nakayama. Her followers call her Oyasama. They believe she was chosen as a shrine for God. The main goal for followers is to live what they call the Joyous Life. This means living with kindness and helping other people.

People try to avoid being greedy, angry, or selfish to reach this state.

Followers have a special way of understanding how the world works. They use the idea of "a thing lent, a thing borrowed." They believe the human body is lent to us by God. However, they believe the mind is the only thing we truly own.

This means we have control over our thoughts and feelings. We do not have full control over our physical bodies. This belief helps people understand their place in the universe. It also shapes how they treat their own health and actions.

Tenrikyo teaches about a single God called Tenri-O-no-Mikoto. This God is often described as a loving parent.

The relationship is like the love between a parent and a child. God does not want to punish people. Instead, God wants to guide and nurture everyone. The divine is seen in many ways, like the sun and the moon. These provide light and warmth to everyone without being unfair. This shows that God's care is constant and for all people.

There is also a concept called causality. This is similar to the idea of karma. It is like a farmer planting seeds in a field.

Every seed that is sown will eventually sprout. This means our actions and intentions have results. If someone faces a hard time, it is not a punishment. It is seen as a sign to reflect and change one's heart. This helps people move closer to a joyful way of living.

Today, Tenrikyo is a large faith with many followers. There are about 1.75 million followers in Japan. It is estimated that over 2 million people follow it worldwide.
