She was a major star in the world of burlesque. Burlesque is a kind of stage show. She was also a motion picture actress. Many people knew her in the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s. She was called "The Queen Of Exotic Dancers."

Her long career lasted for more than 60 years. She was still performing well into the 21st century.

Her path to stardom began with hard work. She was born Annie Blanche Banks in Eastman, Georgia. She left school in the seventh grade. In 1945, she was a seventeen-year-old carhop in Los Angeles. A customer suggested she try striptease as a job. She had an audition with a manager named Lillian Hunt. At first, she earned $40 a week as a chorus dancer. Soon, she was promoted to a stripper earning $60 a week. In 1957, she officially changed her name to Tempest Storm.

Storm traveled to many different places to perform. She worked at the El Rey theater in Oakland, California. She also performed in clubs in Las Vegas. In 1953, she moved to Portland, Oregon. She worked at the Star Theater there. Later, she moved to the Capital Theater. This move caused a famous "burlesque war." A magazine called Life wrote about this rivalry in 1953. It involved her husband, John Becker, and a performer named Arabelle Andre.

Her life was filled with many big events. She appeared in movies like Teaserama in 1955. She was even in a film called French Peep Show in 1950. Storm was married four times during her life. Her fourth husband was a jazz singer named Herb Jeffries. This marriage was difficult for her work. It broke racial rules of that time. She lived in Las Vegas for many years. She passed away there on April 20, 2021, at age 93.

Today, people still remember her great skill. She was inducted into the Burlesque Hall of Fame. You can even see one of her stage outfits there. In 1999, the city of San Francisco honored her. Mayor Willie Brown declared a "Tempest Storm Day." She also told her life story in a 1987 book. A documentary film about her was made in 2016. Her life shows how much work goes into being a star.
