It was made by Anne Wood and Andrew Davenport. The show takes place in a grassy land. This place is full of flowers and rabbits. The four friends live in a home in the ground. They call this home the Tubbytronic Superdome.

Each friend has a special color and shape on their head. Tinky Winky is the largest and is purple. He has a triangle antenna. Dipsy is green and wears a big hat. Laa-Laa is yellow and loves to dance. Po is the smallest and is red. She has a small antenna.

The characters have screens on their bellies. They use these to watch films of real children. They also play with strange tools. There are Voice Trumpets that rise from the ground. There is also Noo-Noo. Noo-Noo is a blue vacuum cleaner. He helps clean the house. Sometimes he is a "Naughty Noo-Noo" when he sucks up things like toast.
