Teleoceras was a type of rhino from North America.

They lived millions of years ago. These rhinos had short legs and round bodies. They looked more like hippos than modern rhinos.

Some species had a small horn on their nose. Other species did not have a horn at all. The males were much bigger than the females. This is called sexual dimorphism. This means males and females look very different. Males had larger heads and thick necks. They also had larger tusks. These tusks were actually their bottom teeth.

Scientists study fossils to learn how they lived. At the Ashfall Fossil Beds in Nebraska, many skeletons were found.

These rhinos lived near water. Many of the fossils there were adult females. Some fossils even show a baby rhino nursing from its mother. Experts think the rhinos died after a volcano erupted. Fine ash from the volcano covered them. Teleoceras went extinct a long time ago. This may have happened because the climate became much colder.
