It lived in North Africa about 30 to 36 million years ago. It liked to live in wet, green forests and swamps.

This beast looked a bit like a rhinoceros. However, it was not a rhino. It was actually a close relative of elephants and manatees. Manatees are large water animals.

The most famous part of this animal was its head. It had two very large horns above its nose. It also had two small, knob-like horns over its eyes. Both males and females had these horns. Scientists think the horns might have been covered in keratin. Keratin is the same stuff that makes up your hair and nails.

Arsinoitherium was built to carry a lot of weight. Its legs were thick and strong like pillars.

One type, called A. giganteum, lived in Ethiopia. This species was even bigger than others. It could weigh nearly 1,960 kg. These heavy animals spent their time eating plants in the forest.
