These rules help people say every letter the right way. The word tajwid means to make something excellent. Scholars began to write these rules a long time ago. This happened as many new people joined the faith. They wanted to stop mistakes in how the words sounded.

Some rules change how we use the Arabic alphabet. For example, some letters are called sun letters. Others are called moon letters. This changes how you say the word "the" before them. There are also seventeen points in the mouth and throat where sounds come from. Some sounds have a heavy accent. Other sounds have a light accent. You might even hear a small bounce in some letters. This is called qalqalah.

This video shows a special way to say a sound. Many people believe following these rules is a duty. It helps the reading sound clear and beautiful.
