Sira are books about the life of Muhammad.

The word sira means a journey. It describes a person's journey through life. This includes their birth, their manners, and their death.

Long ago, people told these stories out loud. They did not write them down at first. Early stories were often called maghazi. These were stories about military trips. They included poems and lists of people. Later, writers put these stories into big books.

Some parts of the sira are very special. They include speeches and even political treaties. Other parts tell of miracles. Some stories show the good and bad traits of his friends.

Historians study these books to learn about the past. Some scholars look at how the stories changed over time. They check the chains of people who told the stories. This helps them see if a report is sound or weak. Even with many different stories, people still agree on the main parts of his life.
