It can grow to be very long. The worm uses a scolex to stay in place. A scolex is a small part at the front end. It has four suckers and tiny hooks. These parts help the worm hold onto the wall of the small intestine.

This worm has a special way of living. It moves between pigs and humans. Pigs eat eggs from the ground. These eggs grow into small, fluid-filled sacs called cysticerci. If a person eats pork with these sacs, an adult worm grows in their belly. This is called taeniasis. Most people do not feel sick from this.

People can also get sick in a different way. This is called cysticercosis. It happens if a person eats eggs from dirty food or water. The eggs can travel to parts of the body like the muscles or the brain. This can cause headaches or seizures. Doctors use special tools like scans to find these cysts. Medicine can help treat the infection.
